police are offering a 12 week class to show the public what it's like to be a police offcer. ashley mcelroy talked to some past participants about the citizens academy. have you ever wanted to see how the bomb squad deals with explosions? OR HOW THEY USE their ROBOTS... or what it's like to work in the k-9 unit ... that's just some of what these people got to see after signing up for the farmington police department's citizens academy earlier this year. "even if they don't want to be a police but they want to learn what a police officers job is." it's also a good expereince for people thinking about pbecoming a police officer. like brittany faverino johnson. she went through citizens academy and is now a cadet for farmington police. she hopes to become a part of the k-9 unit someday. "I love animals and I always wanted to be a police officer so its would be the best of both Worlds." ASHLEY CORDOVA went thorugh citizens academy this past spring,and liked hands on activities like putting on the bomb suit and controlling the robots. "it was kind of hard it takes a lot of skill trying to control them and make sure your going in the right direction." SHE plans to apply for the next police academy. " i'm preparing I want to be fully and 100 percent prepared."
